SPA Future Thinking boasts a specialist education research function that sits alongside our social research provision. As with our social research provision in general, we utilise innovative research techniques (often developed in other fields) to help put the student voice at the very heart of our clients decision making process.

Our clients, ranging from public schools through to universities, student unions through to alumni departments, new universities to Russell group institutions rely on us to ensure that the value gained from using an external provider can be justified through actionable/ measurable results.

SPA Future Thinking was one of the key innovators in conducting pricing research when variable tuition fees were originally introduced in 2006. With the rise in price caps for 2012 we are once again at the forefront of universities pricing research strategies.

The key to our HE Pricing Model is to provide clients with flexible data that can not only look at what pricing policy would provide the highest revenue levels overall but, also how/ if this should differ for individual study areas, the impact on different types of students and the role competitor activity is likely to play. This model is designed such that it not only helps fix prices, but also demonstrates what other areas of investment could justify higher prices/ maintain applications at higher fee levels. Through feeding in competitor activity it is designed to predict the impact of other institutions fees on applications, highlighting those groups most at risk and targeting marketing activity to ensure competitive advantage is maintained.
